Pupils Code of Conduct

“Liberty is being able to do whatever does not harm others -” Declaration of the Rights of Man, 1789.

All communities, families, tribes, countries, have “codes of conduct” in order to help ensure that members do not “harm” each other, do act responsibly towards each other and to serve as a lubricant in internal social interaction. This code of conduct is designed to shape, reinforce and guide the self-discipline that we all must develop in order to live in harmony.

Always act with CONSIDERATION for other members of the community.

Do not damage, abuse or misuse any person, object or building.

Theft, either intellectual or of property, will NOT be tolerated. Everything “belongs” to someone – if it is not yours then do not take it! Hand it in as lost property to the school office.

No pupil may leave the school site without permission.

No pupil will be allowed upon the school site if they are not wearing the appropriate school uniform in acceptable conditions of repair and cleanliness.

Keep to the left whilst moving around the school.

Keep noise to a minimum – your excess noise will disturb others.

Do not run inside the buildings or in any crowded area.

Walls and fences have a specific purpose – they are not benches or chairs so do not use them as such.

Ball games are only permitted on the enclosed court where plimsolls must be worn. Please change out of plimsolls on entering the building.

Do not enter the main building during break times unless you need water. Water should not be taken into classrooms.

Mobile ‘phones may not be used during the school day (9:00 to 15:45). Please turn off such devices before entering the school since, if they are seen or heard, they will be confiscated.

Eating and drinking (including chewing gum) is only permitted during break times and in the appropriate places.

Dispose of litter in a responsible manner in the different eco-bins provided.

Be punctual and arrive at classes with all the materials necessary.

Possession of smoking materials, alcohol and any substance defined by the Head as a “noxious substance” on the school site or during a school activity is strictly forbidden.

Jewellery (including “piercings” except sleeper ear rings for girls) may NOT be worn to school. Piercings may cause severe blood infection and should only be undertaken under parents’ supervision.

Treat materials lent to you by the school with respect and return them upon request.

Pupils are advised not to bring items of value to school (jewellery, cameras, diskmen, iPods etc.) since neither the staff nor the school will accept responsibility for them.

ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE ALWAYS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN ACTIONS AND FOR THE UPKEEP AND GOOD NAME OF THE COMMUNITY TO WHICH YOU BELONG.

IF YOU ARE NOT PART OF THE SOLUTION THEN YOU ARE PART OFTHE PROBLEM!

Manners of dealing with infringements of The Pupils Code of Conduct.

“All actions cause a re-action”
“We are all, at all times, responsible for our actions”

The following is a list of sanctions that will be imposed for breaches of the Code of Conduct. It is not a graduated list implying that the first sanction will be applied first. Each case will be studied upon its individual merits and the sanction (or combination of sanctions) applied will be that deemed to be most appropriate for the behaviour involved.

Verbal warning

Written warning with notification to parents

Detention (after school from 15:45 to 16:30 – 24 hours written warning to parents – normally supervised by the Head)

Saturday Detention (Saturday from 9:00 to 12:00 – 24 hours written warning to parents – normally supervised by Head)

Internal Suspension (from 1 to 3 days) – parents informed by written notice and will have to meet with Head during the period of the suspension

External Suspension (from 1 to 3 days) – parents informed by written notice and will have to meet with Head before the pupil returns to school

Conditional Matriculation – The school will consider the suitability of the pupils return to school in the following academic year during June of the year in which the offence takes place – obviously the pupil’s demeanour between the incident that provokes the award of a Conditional Matriculation and the end of year will be crucial to the school’s decision. Parents will be informed by official letter.

Expulsion.

“The correct punishment for any offence is the lightest possible which effects the desired change in behaviour”
