Music Teacher - Maternity Cover

JOB DESCRIPTION
A vacancy exists at VVIS for a qualified Music Teacher to teach Music to Years 1-9. The successful candidate will commence in November 2026, but candidates are welcome to apply to start immediately. We are seeking an enthusiastic, creative and committed Music Teacher to join our team on a maternity-cover basis. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging and inspiring music lessons across the school, helping students to develop their musical knowledge, practical skills, confidence and appreciation of a wide range of musical styles and traditions. The role would suit a teacher who is passionate about music education and enjoys working in a close-knit international school environment. The successful candidate should be able to inspire students of different ages and abilities and contribute positively to the wider musical life of the school.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Plan and deliver engaging, well-structured Music lessons appropriate to students' ages, abilities and learning needs.

Teach music across a range of year groups.

Develop students' knowledge and understanding of musical concepts, terminology, composition, performance and music appreciation.

Provide opportunities for students to develop practical musical skills through singing, instrumental work, composition and performance.

Differentiate learning effectively to support students with varying levels of musical experience and ability.

Assess and monitor student progress, providing constructive feedback and appropriate support.

Maintain a positive, inclusive and engaging classroom environment.

Contribute to school performances, concerts, assemblies, productions and other musical events.

Encourage students to participate confidently in musical activities both inside and outside the classroom.

Work collaboratively with colleagues to support cross-curricular and whole-school initiatives.

Maintain appropriate records of planning, assessment and student progress.

Communicate professionally with parents and colleagues regarding student progress and development.

Contribute to the wider life of the school and uphold the school's values, policies and safeguarding procedures.
REQUIREMENTS

A recognised teaching qualification and/or relevant degree in Music or Music Education.

Previous experience teaching Music.

Strong practical and theoretical musical knowledge.

The ability to teach students across different ages and levels of musical ability.

Excellent communication and classroom-management skills.

A creative, enthusiastic and flexible approach to teaching.

A commitment to inclusive education and supporting the individual needs of students.

Strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
